This 18k gold playing card charm is adorned with white vitreous (glass) enamel and engraved in French with a motto about fate and agency: "Le destin les donne, nous les jouons" ("Fate deals them, we play them").

Each corner carries a card suit (heart, diamond, club, and spade), framed by scrolling Art Nouveau-style flourishes in the style of an antique playing card.

An heirloom-method original

This charm is made exclusively by La Plus Charmante and is not a reproduction or a mass-produced casting. Every piece is made by hand using the same vitreous enameling techniques practiced by Victorian-era enamelists in the champlevé style: powdered glass is applied into engraved recesses and fused at high heat, creating a durable, glossy surface that is part of the metal itself. Unlike many antique enamels, ours uses modern, lead-free glass enamel, so you get the look and craftsmanship of the 19th century with a cleaner, safer material.

Because each charm is made and finished by hand, slight variations in the enamel and engraving are part of its character.
