Vintage 1970s Avon Eggplant Perfume Glacé Necklace
Let’s address the elephant — er, eggplant — in the room: yes, it’s shaped exactly like that, and no, we don’t think Avon’s product namers in the ‘70s were being cheeky about it. They just really, really liked their fruit-and-vegetable novelty bottles. This one’s a deep, glossy aubergine-black glass eggplant, capped in a gold-tone leafy cap so realistic you’ll want to check it for stem rot.
Originally designed as a liquid cologne pendant, the cap unscrews to reveal a small compartment — perfect for dabbing on your own favorite scent throughout the day, or just admiring as a quirky little functional antique. Once emptied and cleaned out, it’s an easy swap to fill with whatever you’re currently wearing, so this can go right on being a working perfume pendant instead of just a pretty relic.
The gold-tone cap is nicely detailed with hand-tooled leaf veining and two-tone silver accents peeking through, and the underside is stamped with a little flower — a hidden detail most perfume pendants don’t bother with. Unscrews smoothly, seals snugly.
Details:
- Pendant length: 1.5”
- Chain length: 1.5” (original to the piece, gold-plated, unbroken and supple)
- Materials: gold-plated metal cap, glass eggplant-shaped bottle
- Era: 1970s, Avon
- Condition: vintage, gently worn — glass glossy with no chips, cap opens/closes smoothly
An eggplant with a job to do. Wear it empty as a sculptural little conversation piece, or fill it with your own signature scent and let it get back to work.
