9k Fine Vintage Carnelian Intaglio Signet Ring

A Collector’s dream! So unusual and well-executed. Carved in reverse to make its image the right way around when pressed into wax (see photos).

Text reads: Berger Ianat (Latin: The shepherd rests). Features and image of an angelic shepherd, with two sheepdogs, hanging up his crook on a clock.

Possibly an ecclesiastical jewel or a signet ring for someone in a leadership position. Implies a definitive end to argument or a final decision about a topic!

My suspicion is that this is an older (antique) intaglio that was reset in 1989.

Light scratches to exterior of gold. Otherwise excellent condition.
